Ham's move for Estudiantes forward Duvan Zapata has taken an important
step forward after the Irons applied for a work permit for the
Colombian.
The 20 year old is highly regarded across South America and according to Sky Sports,
there are a number of high-profile figures in the game who are prepared
to give references to the Colombia U20 international and help the
youngster attain a work permit on the grounds of 'special talent'.
The Hammers agreed a £6.7m fee for Zapata earlier this week.
The
progress that Zapata's national side have made of late is likely to be
of significance in whether the permit is granted or not, with Colombia
now ranked 3rd in the world in the official FIFA rankings, with only
Germany and World and European champions Spain above them.
A
source close to the deal declared himself 'hopeful' that the permit
would be granted and that a deal he described as a 'dream move' would be
concluded soon.
