Last day deadline for Cole in £1.5m contract offer

West Ham striker Carlton Cole has been given until the last day of the season to sign a new deal at the Boleyn Ground, the Sun are reporting this morning.

The powerful frontman has been in talks with the club for some weeks but negotiations were believed to be on the brink of breaking down, with the 29 year reported to be demanding £40,000 a week wages and the Hammers hierarchy having a figure of around £20,000 in mind.

However, according to the newspaper this morning, the club have been prepared to compromise on a new deal for Cole and have offered him a new contract worth £30,000 a week, plus £5,000 in appearance money. The appearance money is an interesting turn in the contract negotiations, given that the one time England striker has only started six games this year for the Irons.

The forward is out of contract at the end of the season and is believed to have been considering his options, with Reading and Crystal Palace among the sides reportedly interested in Cole's services. Now, he has 24 days to decide his West Ham future.
