The chase for Jase: Hammers keen on Southampton's Puncheon

Southampton are dithering over offering midfielder Jason Puncheon a new contract before his current deals runs out at the end of the season, and West Ham could be set to make a move at the end of the season, according to the Sun. In a interesting parallel with the future of Irons boss Sam Allardyce, Saints chairman Nicola Cortese is reportedly unwilling to discuss a contract extension with the 26 year old until the club's Premier League status is secured. A bust up between the two last season resulted in the former MK Dons man being placed on the transfer list, and although the two men have since made up, Puncheon will surely be less than happy at the lack of loyalty being shown to him by his chairman, after netting six Premier League goals so far this season and publicly stating his commitment to the South Coast club, saying that "I am happy here and that is the most important thing." Newcastle are also reportedly sniffing round the pacy attacker and so a transfer tug-of-war could well be on at the end of the season; for a free transfer, a proven scorer like Puncheon would represent excellent value.
