Reserves lose out to Saints after wonder strike

West Ham's Development Squad were narrowly beaten last night at Rush Green by Southampton, with a screaming long range effort in the 61st minute from Saints substitute Alberto Seidi proving to be the difference between the two sides. The Hammers will be disappointed with the defeat, given that prior to kick off, their opposition were sitting second bottom of the U21 Premier League Elite Group Stage table and had yet to get their first win on the board; but the defeat could certainly not be attributed to a lack of effort on our boys' part, with excellent individual performances from midfielder George Moncur and skipper Calum Driver.

Forward Sebastian Lletget tweeted after the game "Good game today, credit to all the effort the team put in today, focus on the next game vs wolves #WHUFC". The lads played some great football at times and created some good chances, and striker Elliot Lee almost equalised in stoppage time with a well-timed header, but it wasn't to be.

West Ham still sit second in the table and will want to regroup ahead of the trip to Telford United's New Bucks Head ground on the 26th to face Wolverhampton Wanderers, who currently lie bottom of the league with one point from four matches. However, last night's result only goes to show that the game isn't played on paper and upsets do happen, so Paul Fairclough will need to rally his troops and put right whatever went wrong last night.
