Investigation hotting up on Wearside brawl- ten arrested now

Northumbria Police have confirmed that five more arrests have been made as part of the investigation into a bar brawl before last month's Sunderland v West Ham match at the Stadium of Light. Five men were reported to have been arrested yesterday, and today, Chief Superintendent Kay Blyth revealed to the Sunderland Echo, the arrest count has doubled. "More arrests have been made in connection with this disorder and the investigation continues," Blyth stated. "We still have CCTV out there of people we still need to speak to about the incident. We've so far had a good response and are following up a number of lines of inquiry with more arrests expected soon."

The five men arrested yesterday were all believed to be Sunderland fans and these latest arrests are all from the North East, with a 17 year old and an 18 year old from Washington and a 17 year old from Chester-le-Street- as well as two other men with age unspecified- joining a 23 year old, an 18 year old and a 16 year old from Sunderland and an 18 year old from Chester-le-Street plus a 20 year old from South Tyneside on the arrest sheet. The original five men arrested have been bailed pending further enquiries. The Met Police are understood to be in pursuit of the West Ham fans involved in what is believed to be violence arranged between the hooligan elements of both clubs. The investigation continues.
