Hammers eye Lambert summer steal

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce is plotting a summer bid for Southampton's star striker Ricky Lambert, according to the Mirror. The Irons reportedly enquired about the 31 year old during the January transfer window but were sent away with a flea in their ear by the South Coast club; however, Allardyce may well return in the summer with a concrete offer for Lambert, who is out of contract at the end of the season. Scouser Lambert stated this week that he wants to finish his career at the Saints, but as far as Blowing Bubbles understands, there is no fresh talk of a new contract for the man who has rifled in eleven league goals this season, making him the most prolific Englishman in the top flight. You can certainly understand Big Sam's motivation on this one- the side is crying out for a good old-fashioned English centre forward to lead it and Ricky Lambert could well be that man.
