Big Sam wants more Jekyll and less Hyde

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has described his frustration at the “Jekyll and Hyde” form that the Hammers have showed this season.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s clash with Aston Villa, Allardyce recognised that the side’s away form must become closer to that of the home form.

He told an assorted press: “For us, it's an opportunity to get a result and try to get some points on the board away from home after what was a very good win and a very good performance against Swansea. We are Jekyll and Hyde, there's no doubt about it. It does niggle me that we can't quite find the same type of form away from home that we've been producing all season at home."

Big Sam spoke of the confidence boost injected by the Swansea win, but knows that if West Ham find themselves behind at Villa, they will struggle to come back.

He also praised Andy Carroll’s return from injury, saying: “I expected him to be a bit rusty maybe, a bit off the pace, but still a very poignant figure in our attack. But he was even better than that, which is why I left him on for 90 minutes. Not only did he play very well, but his fitness looked very, very good as well.”

Yet again, Allardyce is right in what he says. Confidence is good, but we must capitalise on that, and not allow another side battling relegation to turn us over. Carroll could make that all important difference.
